The Portuguese has been brought in to win the title back from the reigning champions, but other clubs such as Manchester City and Arsenal have their own designs on the trophy. After former manager Carlo Ancelotti was sacked after just one trophyless season, Villas-Boas is aware of the consequences should he fail to win anything in his debut year, but he is not worried by the challenge ahead, despite admitting it will be a competitive campaign

Lyon defender Aly Cissokho appears unsure over his future just days after being linked with a £21.7 million transfer to Manchester City.

The 23-year-old was said to have held talks with Roberto Mancini’s transfer chiefs on Monday amid reports the French club were looking to sell players to raise funds.

Speaking to O Jogo about his next move, Cissokho said: “I have a contract with Lyon.

“Today, the coach has changed Remi Garde has replaced Claude Puel and no one knows what will happen.”

But he is applying pressure on his club to help him decide whether he should stay or consider any subsequent offers.

“I expect a decision by the club so I may know what my future will be,” he added.

Cissokho is tied to the Ligue 1 outfit until 2014 after joining from Porto in 2009.
