    Ughelli — A native of ldjere in Ethiope West local government area of Delta State, James Obriki, was kidnapped at the weekend around Jakpa in Uvwie local government area.

    However, the father of the leader of the kidnappers and wives of the three other suspects are in police custody. It was learnt that the man was said to have been making preparations for his wedding on Friday morning when he was abducted at gun point and was taken to Samagidi village in Ethiope east local government.

    Chairman of Okpara vigilance group, Ovoke Ubuara, told our correspondent that information got to them that strangers were seen in one of the villages of Okpara community and that on the information, they acted swiftly and went after the kidnappers, who abandoned a car they used in Ushue street in Kokori and ran into the bush.

    Ubuara said the kidnappers were chased into the bush and that with the assistance of some military men, one of them was caught who gave useful information. He added that combined team of the vigilance group and anti kidnap squad, who later went in search of the kidnappers arrested the father of the kidnappers’ kingpin and wives of the three other suspects. Meanwhile the kidnappers had on Sunday threatened to kill their victim if their families were not released and N18 million ransom paid.

    But according to Ubuara, if the kidnappers killed the man, members of families of the kidnappers would also be killed.

    When contacted, Police Public Relation Officer, Charles Muoka, said no information had got to him on the issue.
