Commitments and an emotional hug by the traditional leaders of Baworo, Musakas and Essimbis dropped curtains on the peace mission that took the Interministerial team of five Ministers and twoGovernors to Baworo, Balin and Wum from June 26 to 29, 2011.
A working session in Wum gave the team leader, Minister of State, Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, Marafa Hamidou Yaya, the moment to salute contributions by the conflicting communities, elite and the Administration towards lasting peace after the conflict that brought frustrations, misery, desolation, destructions and loss of lives.
After taking President Paul Biya’s message of peace to the field, Minister of State, Marafa Hamidou Yaya told the working session that it was time for action. It was against this backdrop that Chief Elias Igelle, speaking for the Musakas of Akwaya in the South West stated preparedness to re-embrace Essimbis and mobile fellow Musakas to help in the reconstruction of destroyed Essimbi houses.
Chief Azah Wachong of Essimbi, Chief Oteh of Baworo and Ihimbru Samuel, an elite of Menchum Valley in the North West also went public in declaring that “Essimbis have never and would never compromise peace”.
Minister of State, Marafa Hamidou Yaya also stressed the need for Cameroonians to work for peace in the image of President Biya, an apostle of peace. He said that peace will chart the way forward for social amenities and development to follow before announcing the acquisition of new Service Vans for the Administrators of Menchum Valley and Akwaya Sub divisions to better serve the population.
He said the government will assist victims of the conflict to resettle and that the law will handle those guilty of orchestrating the community violence between the Essimbis and Musakas.
Secretary of State for Defence, Jean Baptiste Bokam announced the creation of Gendarmerie Posts in Baworo and Balin plus emergency measures to ensure that the new Units function in full capacity.
He was also cheered for the commitment to increase staff in the enclaved and far away Furu Awa Sub division plus the re-enforcement of Gendarmerie presence across the country.
The Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele said Menchum division and the North West are fully party of imminent reforms in the Police force to better keep peace and Order.
Elite like Hon. J.C Kangkolo, Wallang David, Nji Fidelis etc saluted confidence building measures by the visiting Interministerial team and also committed to facilitate peace keeping.
The Interministerial team that took President Biya’s message of peace to Baworo in the North West and Balin in the South West included the Minister of State Property and Land Tenure, Jean Baptiste Beleoken, Minister of Public Works, Bernard Messengue Avom, Secretary of State for Defense, Jean Baptiste Bokam, Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele, Governors Abakar Ahamat and Koumpa Issa of the North West and South West Regions.
