Fulham manager Martin Jol intends to loan out goalkeeper David Stockdale to ensure he plays regular football.

Mark Schwarzer is believed to be the first-choice keeper of the new boss at Craven Cottage, which led to reports suggesting the 25-year-old’s future at the London club was in doubt.

However, the Dutch coach has clarified the situation, stating he is a talented prospect and that loaning him to a club where he would be playing consistently is the main aim.

“We saw him in training and Hans Segers said he’s a big talent,” Jol said, according to Sky Sports.

“I won’t sell him because I think his future is bright, but the only thing is we need a club which will promise me he will play every week.”

Stockdale joined Fulham from Darlington in 2008, playing for York prior to that, and has spent time out on loan at Rotherham United, Leicester City and Plymouth Argyle.

The Leeds-born goalkeeper had stints in the Craven Cottage first team last season when Schwarzer was injured or away on international duty, impressing in his appearances.

He was called up to the England squad for their match against Switzerland but had to withdraw because the date of the game coincided closely with his wedding.

Although he is yet to make an appearance for the national side, he has moved up the pecking order thanks to fellow keepers Ben Foster and Paul Robinson making themselves unavailable for selection.
