Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Mrs. Farida Waziri has described the allegations of selective prosecution levelled against the anti-graft agency as ridiculous.

She spoke when president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Mohammed Garba led members of the union’s National Working Committee to the headquarters of the commission yesterday in Abuja.

Farida said the often negative portrayal of the commission was churned out by disgruntled individuals, who wanted to thwart the efforts of the agency.

“The people that I am fighting, they are the ones that spread this propaganda, that Oh! She is selective, or some ridiculous argument like, this money is small why is she after us, somebody else stole billions, why won’t she go after them. We simply haven’t reached that level of understanding and appreciating that the laws of the land have to be obeyed whether you stole ten kobo, once the ingredient of theft are there, you go in for it,” she said.

Earlier, NUJ President Mohammed Garba challenged the EFCC chairman to redouble her efforts in fighting graft, especially in the area of cyber crime which he says reflects negatively on the image of the country in the comity of nations.
