A 25-year old convict, serving a three-year jail term, has received additional three years sentence for escaping from prison custody.

John Anane pleaded guilty to the charge.

Police Chief Inspector Isaac Mensah Apenteng told the KMA Circuit Court, presided over by Justice William Boampong that Anane was a prisoner at the Amanfrom Camp Prison, near Kumasi.

On May 23, Anane and two other convicts were escorted by a Prison Officer to provide labour on a building under construction.

Chief Insp. Apenteng said after the close of work, Anane took a shovel, pretended he was cleaning it and when he became convinced that nobody was watching him, he escaped.

The prosecution said the Prison Officer report the case to his superior authorities and a search was mounted for Anane.

Chief Insp. Mensah said Anane was arrested by the Police in Sunyani for alleged murder and he was transfer to Kumasi for trial.
