The inaugural edition of the much hyped Sax and the City concert was held at the International School of Kenya last Saturday. It saw an all Kenyan saxophone cast of Chris Bitok (Alto), Don Ouko (Alto), Jack Anduuru (Alto) and Edward Parseen (Alto/Tenor/Trumpet) bring the house down with their unique horn-based arrangements. The four had amazing chemistry and each brought their own unique touch. The quartet has a great mastery of the sax and it is just a pleasure to watch them perform and bring the sax to life.

They also had a chance to shine individually as Don Ouko performed a solo Crawling while Parseen opted for Brew. Lawrence Mwai took to the piano on stage and accompanied Bitok and Ouko as they played popular songs like American Girl and Whitney Houston’s saving all my love for you respectively.

The evening’s highlight had to be the additional entertainment in the form of Samantha Jones (yes, she from the popular Sex in the City Series) who was brought to reality by the sultry Kaz Lucas by performing a duet with Bitok. Atemi Oyungu also added her vocals to the show that thrilled the audience present.

Sax in the City will be held on a quarterly basis where future editions will bring together Saxophone players from the region, continent, and other internationally acclaimed acts.
