Liverpool‘s assistant manager Sammy Lee has left the club by mutual consent following an analysis of the backroom team.
In a statement released by the club, the board told fans that they are looking at making further changes to the club’s backroom staff as they look to have a better start to the upcoming Premier League season than they did last year.
Lee, a former midfielder who spend most of his career with the Reds, had been in the dugout for three years following his sacking as boss of fellow Premier League club Bolton Wanderers.
He told the official website: “I returned to the club in 2008 and I’m proud of the contribution I’ve been able to make since then.
“I want to wish Kenny, the players and the supporters all the best going forward.”
Manager Kenny Dalglish also contributed to the official website and said: “We’d like to place on record our thanks for all of Sammy’s hard work over the years and the contribution he has made to Liverpool.Â
“He has always been a credit to the Football Club and a credit to himself.Â
“Everyone at Liverpool FC wishes him all the best in his future career.”
Lee retained his position as assistant manager when Dalglish took over the reins, even when respected coach Steve Clarke joined the staff, but his presence is now no longer needed in the Anfield dugout.
The statement on the website concluded by saying: “The Club will continue to analyse the requirements of their backroom team and will make further announcements in due course.”
