An MP has called on the government to freeze all the accounts of those who are accused of embezzling the Free Primary Education fund. MP David Njuguna said the thieves should be punished because they are out to destroy the future of children. “I appeal to the government to move with speed to investigate the issue and arrest the suspects,” Njuguna said. “These accounts of the perpetrators must be frozen and their transferred to the Ministry of Education,” he said.

Njuguna commended President Mwai Kibaki for his for his fight against corruption and impunity in the country and called on Kenyans to support him. He was speaking during the presentation of Sh1.5 million educational development cash to schools in Lari. ” Let’s support the President in his efforts to fight corruption and impunity in this country,” the MP said.

Njuguna however accused the Kenya Anti Corruption Commission of sleeping on the job. ” I would like to tell PLO Lumu, mba to start acting on the issue and to stop blame game,” Njuguna said. The MP condemned the civil society for blocking the Minister’s Jogoo House education offices in Nairobi . He termed the move as unprofessional and inhumane as they were denying people access to get services.

He said that people have been traveling as far as Turkana and many other parts of the country to see the Minister but they were denied access by the group which is being led by ingfamous rights activist Okita Omutata. “I would be cautioning the society groups who have been paralyzing government operations. If you wanted to see the education Minister you can not see neither his PS nor education director, you can not be able to see any when they are there,” said Njuguna.

He added, “There is a government in place and they should not try to imagine there are two parallel government s in place. If they were to block a hospital or food stores, people would die.”

Meanwhile, the MP urged the police in Lari to beef up security as they have now received two police vans. He condemned the recent burning of Uplands funeral home saying it was the first to be reported in the country. One body was burnt during the Wednesday nights fire hat saw two men arrested but were released on Friday evening when evidence lacked to link them with the fire.
