Juja MP William Kabogo yesterday said he did not know Mercy Keino, the postgraduate University of Nairobi student whose body was found dumped on Waiyaki Way last week. Kabogo denied claims that he attended a party with Keino and her friends at Wasini Luxury Homes on Church Road. He said he had been at a restaurant in Westlands and on arrival, he had waved at those present. He said he does not know whether Mercy was among those present.

“There was no party as alleged. I was in a restaurant in Westlands. I do not know how she came in and how she left because I do not know her,” stated Kabogo. He refused to reveal the name of the restaurant saying he frequents it and it would not be fair to drag its name into the saga surrounding the death of the university student.

Kabogo said the police called him to record a statement and he had done so. “I guess they (police) have also called her friends to do the same,” said Kabogo.

Kabogo said he wondered how his name had been dragged into the case since he had no contact with Keino on that fateful day. “I guess when they mention Kabogo, the sales of the paper goes up. I can assure you that a politician has no life and conclusions are quickly made when you are seen anywhere,” stated Kabogo.

Keino, whose father is an official at Baraton University, was found dead on Waiyaki Way last week. Her body had been run over by vehicles. She reportedly walked out of a party after a scuffle with ‘some men’ who had been trying to restrain her from leaving. She was discovered dead by police a few hours later.

The police initially suspected it was a hit-and-run accident until someone reported the following day that she had seen Mercy’s body being dumped from a black Mercedes.
