Ulanga District Council is planning to rehabilitate its 40 health facilities during the 2011/12 financial year as a way of improving health services in the district.
The district council chairman, Mr Furaha Lilongeli, said the plan will involve all health facilities including two hospitals, three health centres and 35 dispensaries.
Mr Lilongeli insisted that since the capitation grant from the central government was not enough to improve health services in all the facilities, plans were underway to sensitise many people to join Community Health Fund (CHF) so as to get money for the work.
He said apart from having problems of getting drugs from the Medical Stores Department (MSD), not all the drugs the district needs were available.
“We have agreed that the best way of dealing with such problems is sensitising wananchi to join CHF so that the money we get through the fund can be used to improve health services in the district,” he said.
