Sunderland have reportedly agreed a £13 million deal with Ipwsich Town for Portman Road striker Connor Wickham.

According to The Mirror, the deal with involve £9m paid up front to Championship club, managed by Paul Jewell, with potentially £4m in add-ons.

The 18-year-old has been a target for a number of Premier League clubs and Sunderland’s negotiated offer was intended to see off Liverpool’s interest.

Wickham is reportedly keen on moving to Merseyside but Ipswich are not prepared to let their home-grown starlet depart for any less than what the Black Cats are offering.

Kenny Dalglish has been monitoring the youngster since he became Anfield boss in January but Stadium of Light manager Steve Bruce looks instead to have captured the England Under-21 international.

The north east club have been looking to boost their attacking options having sold striker Darren Bent to Aston Villa for £24m, coinciding with his transfer request.

Danny Welbeck, who was loaned to Sunderland from Manchester United last season, is believed to be intent on making his mark at Old Trafford as opposed to another loan move.
