    Nestle Nigeria Plc has rewarded the overall winner of the 2011 Maggi Cook for Mama competition, Miss Ochonogor Deborah Adaeze of Government Secondary School, Byszhin, Abuja with N500, 000.

    Adaeze, who topped five other competing students from across the six geo-political zones of the Federation at the grand finale, also received a brand new laptop computer, a deep freezer and an ipod.

    The competition which was open to youths in Secondary Schools between the ages of 13-17 generated a high interest of over 50,000 students.

    Category Business Manager-Culinary, Nestle, Mr. Guy Kellaway said the competition was designed to enhance the bond between mothers, their children and the entire family and also promote the transfer of culinary skills from mother to child and further strengthen the partnership bond between Maggi and its consumers.

    Kellaway explained that a draw was held simultaneously in all six zones of the Federation, Kaduna, Yola, Calabar, Abuja, Ibadan and Lagos in May 2011 to select t the 60 zonal contestants from which six finalists were chosen to compete for the ultimate crown of the “Maggi Cook for Mama Chef of the year”.

    “Today, Maggi is a part of Nigeria’s cooking culture and her success is anchored on a strong understanding of local and eating habit” he said

    “Maggi cook for mama competition is aimed at celebrating mothers for their tireless efforts in nurturing the family using cooking as a platform”.

    Master Adbulkarim Mohammed of Government Day, Secondary School, Jimeta Yola followed with a second prize of N250,000, a Gas Cooker Oven and an ipod while Abdul Semiu Balikis of Majidun Junior Grammer School, Lagos came third with N150,000 cash prize, a Gas Cooker, oven and an ipod.
