ONDO State Governor Olusegun Mimiko has called for a review of the current revenue formula in the country as such an increase would enable the states to implement the new minimum wage .
Speaking yesterday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, he said that reviewing the revenue allocation formula was something that the government should do as the States needed more money for development.
“It is an issue that we cannot run away from, we need to review the revenue allocation formula, so that more money will be deployed to the states and the peripheral in general.
“Even now the state bears a lot of responsibility, so we need commensurable resources to be able to drive this development, so I am in support of the review of the revenue allocation formula ”
Mimiko who noted that with the review of the revenue allocation in place, the various states would be able to carry out a lot of developments, added that it would enable the states pay the N18,000 minimum wages.
On his visit to the World Bank’s headquarters, Mimiko disclosed that the Bank had given commitment to partner with the state in its health care programmes.
He said the state was convinced that such partnership would help achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on maternal health.
“So for me, it has been a very worthy visit and getting assurance from the World Bank for health programme, with all sense of modesty, is something that is very gratifying.”
