Manchester City are understood to have made a move for young Montenegrin defender Stefan Savic as they look to strengthen their defence ahead of next season.

The Eastlands side are believed to have made an opening bid of €7 million (£6.2m) for the 20-year-old however Partizan Belgrade will hold out for at least €10m (£8.9m), reports Sports Journal.

Partizan’s sporting director Mladen Krstajic has insited though that a deal is yet to be done. “Savic is still here with us, so he has signed nothing yet,” he told Blic.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Krstajic added: “Stefan Savic is under contract, he’s a Partizan player and normally goes on with his job.

“I left, Marko Jovanovic is about to leave. If we lose Savic too, coach Stanojevic would be in a trouble defensively. Therefore, Savic can leave only if we find adequate replacement at the back.”

The player joined Partizan last summer and had previously spent time on trial with Arsenal. “If the time comes for me to leave Partizan, it would be difficult – but that is our life in sport. But for now I have no transfer information,” Savic revealed.
