Kenya Football Federation chairman Sam, Nyamweya has appealed to the Independent Electoral Board to consider all the necessary measures to ensure that national football elections are truly free, fair and transparent.
Speaking after the announcement that August 13 will be the date for the much awaited elections Nyamweya said: “Though belated, the move will help stem the despair and anxiety that has been rising since last October when Fifa promised to ensure the mess in Kenya’s football administration would be brought to an end through an election.”
Nyamweya also affirmed the will be going for the top seat while Aduda Omondi will be vying for the secretary general’s office. “For the first time, these elections are going to accord Kenyans a chance to freely elect officials of their own without being coerced to do so or the officials being imposed on them,” said Nyamweya.
Former Harambee Stars player Sammy Sholei, who is also eyeing the top seat, insisted that this was no time to celebrate and people should wait until the process kicks off.
In another development Sholei and Mohammed Hussein have been urged to form a joint force to take over the running of Kenyan football. Speaking in Kamukunji Constituency during an event to launch the Kamukunji Football Association, Harambee Stars captain Dennis Oliech said it was time the management of football in country was passed to youthful leaders and that for that to happen Sholei and Hussein need to work together to avoid splitting the votes.”The two have strong leadership skills and qualities that can manage the game in the country. We can only have change if they can work together,” said Oliech.
