Windhoek — Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) Secretary Dr Elijah Ngurare has laughed off suggestions he is preparing to quit his youth league post for mega-bucks at a local UN agency.
Sources claimed over the weekend that the militant SPYL chief was preparing to quit the SPYL and take up a high-paying job at a local UN office, but Ngurare rubbished the allegations.
“I must be crazy to do something like that,” said the youth leader.
“Money is not everything. I earn a little at the SPYL but my stay there is motivated by principles and not money,” a seemingly shocked Ngurare said yesterday.
Sources in Swapo, especially from the Kavango Region where Ngurare hails from, claim that the SPYL firebrand is joining the UN, possibly out of frustration for missing out on a senior government position.
But this too appeared comical to Ngurare who insisted that he has no ambitions to secure a government post, saying those making these allegations are on a campaign trail against him.
“To me, the UN is like the USA. And as a Pan-African, I must be crazy to work for any of the two,” Ngurare said.
Ngurare, famed for his outspokenness and independent-mindedness has survived se-veral attempts to rid him from the SPYL and he suspects the engineers of moves to oust him have now resorted to new campaign tactics.
