We just need to go out and bring people to the football club that will raise the profile and standard of the performances that we have had since January – and I think Jordan falls into that category.

    Kenny Dalglish

I have some options. Bayern Munich and Liverpool are two real possibilities for me. We are pretty close to those clubs and those are my options and I hope they come true.. The Liverpool option is the most serious one.”

    Cristian Zapata

We are attractive to a lot of top players and we want to bring top players to this club.

    Goal.com’s Verdict

New Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group FSG wasted no time in making a splash in their first taste of the Premier League transfer window in January with the signings of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll, and the Americans have shown little sign of slowing up in the summer as they attempt to overhaul the squad they inherited.

Jordan Henderson has already arrived at Anfield for a fee in the region of £18 million, and director of football strategy Damien Comolli will be charged with making further acquisitions in the coming months, with an emphasis seemingly on building a youthful squad with a British core.

Liverpool could resurrect their move for Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam, who is keen to remain in the Premier League, while width on the left hand side is a necessity for Kenny Dalglish next season, and Stewart Downing has emerged as a target after rejecting discussions over a new contract at Aston Villa, though supporters would undoubtedly prefer the extremely talented and vastly more coveted and expensive Juan Mata.

The Reds are also looking for recruitments at left-back, with Gael Clichy understood to be interested in a move, while Newcastle United’s Jose Enrique is another option, with Paul Konchesky set to leave the club after failing to impress following his transfer from Fulham.

Konchesky heads a list of failures of previous regimes in the transfer market that the club will be eager to remove from their books this summer, which includes Joe Cole and Christian Poulsen. Alberto Aquilani meanwhile could still have a future with Liverpool as Juventus look unlikely to meet the asking price for the midfielder they had on loan during the 2010-11 season.

Meanwhile, despite one impressive season on Merseyside, Raul Meireles is rumoured to be on his way out of Anfield following a dispute over his contract, on which the 28-year-old was expecting improved terms ahead of the new campaign.

Expect Liverpool to be one of the busiest and biggest spenders of the summer.

    Readers’ Verdict

I’ve heard a few rumours that Raul Meireles may be leaving to make room for Adam. If that was the case I’d much rather Raul stay than sign Adam – Chris, Merseyside

If we buy Mata, we can already consider the summer transfer window a success – Yusuf, Bristol

Downing has one of the best left feet in the world, pin point crosses, a young, experienced English international. Knows and has played many times with Gerrard and has the ability to use the full potential of Carroll – Paul, Warrington
