Barely, one week after five corps members, who were abducted in Rivers State regained their freedom, unknown gunmen have kidnapped King Oweipa Jones Ere III of Ogboin Kingdom in Bayelsa State.
Ogboin is a clan in Amassoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, where the former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyesiegha, hails from.
The king, who is usually referred to as the Ebenanawei of Ogboin Clan, was said to have been abducted in Odoha, Emohua Local Government Area at about 8.30pm on Sunday by a group of men armed with AK-47 rifles.
Sources said resenting Ere was accosted by his captors, numbering about seven, before he was whisked away to an unknown destination.
It was gathered that three persons, who were with monarch before he was abducted, were asked to lie on the floor while the operation lasted.
THE PUNCH learnt that no person or group of persons had claimed responsibility for Ere’s abduction even as the suspected kidnappers were yet to speak to anybody on the reason behind their act.
Though, details of how the royal father was abducted was scanty as at the time of filing this report, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ben Ugwuegbulam, confirmed the abduction of the monarch.
Ugwuegbulam said one Patrick Ayibalua of Bebeliduro, Bayelsa State, had reported a case of abduction of King Oweipa Jones Ere to Emohua Divisional Police Station.
He explained that the police had since then begun investigation towards the royal father and the arrest of the hoodlums behind the dastardly act.
“The scene of crime has been visited by security operatives and all efforts are being made to rescue him and arrest the culprits,” a statement sent to newsmen in Port Harcourt by the state police spokesman read.”
