An attempt by the Kasoa Urban Council to relocate traders and drivers at the Kasoa Old Market is said to have generated a lot of confusion. The council has relocated the main lorry station to a new location far from town. A journalist with Kosoa-based Pink FM Prince Asiedu told Joy News the council undertook the exercise after the drivers and the traders had defied a directive to move to the new station created for them.

Local Government Minister, Samuel Ofosu AmpofoThe Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has said that though he has not received an official complaint or report about the disappearance of over GHS 3.6 million from the coffers of the Gomoa East Assembly in the Central Region,  he will take steps to help quicken investigations into the matter.

The Local Government Minister was speaking with Asempa News in response to Monday’s demonstration by a faction in the NDC in the District over the disappearance of the money. The protest march was also countered by another group in the NDC leading to clashes between the two and police had to use tear gas amidst warning shots to disperse them.

The Spokesperson for the protesting group, Adam Seidu who presented a petition to the MP for Gomoa East, Ekow Panin Okyere demanded that, the President who is deemed to be anti-corrupt, set up a committee to investigate the matter.

The DCE of the District, Isaac Kingsley Ahunumah who confirmed the story on Asempa Today on Monday indicated that, some suspects including seven of the Assembly’s staff are already facing trial and have been granted bail by the Cape Coast High Court.

According to Mr. Kingsley Ahunumah, the theft was detected on 28th April, 2011.

When asked if he had informed the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo about the missing money, the Gomoa East DCE responded in the negative but added he had informed the Central Regional Minister, Ama Benyiwa Doe.

But Hon. Ofosu Ampofo tells Asempa News that, though he also heard about the disappearance of the money on radio, it is an issue of interest to him and the state and he will therefore pursue the matter to the end.
