LAGOS—Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, Sunday, met with Governor Babatunde Fashola, apparently to streamline the list of nominees into the state’s cabinet.
Governor Fashola, it was gathered, had, last Friday, sent the list of about 37 commissioner-nominees to the state House of Assembly for approval.
According to a source, the Speaker, along with some principal officers of the House, met with the leader of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and former governor in the state, Senator Ahmed Tinubu.
The group later headed to Fashola’s Marina residence to convey the decision of the party to him.
Meanwhile, the House members, who are on recess, along with some ACN chieftains, including Dele Alake, billed to return as a commissioner, are currently in Ghana for an event to honour Tinubu today.
The Ghana trip, it was also gathered, would be used to further deliberate on the issue.
The current crisis resulted from the exclusion of some names sent by ACN to the governor from the list of nominees.
The name of Mr. Segun Ayobolu, a former Special Adviser to the governor on Information and Strategy, and a few others, were missing from the nominees list.
Sources told Vanguard that the fresh crisis might degenerate into another face-off between Tinubu, the lawmakers and Governor Fashola if he (Fashola) remains adamant about those he wants to work with.
