The Agriculture, Water and Forestry Minister wants to see the Etunda Irrigation Scheme developed to full production if it is to live up to the nation’s expectations.
Minister John Mutorwa said this during his working familiarisation visit to the project recently. Etunda produces fresh food such as maize, tomatoes, onions, potatoes, pumpkins and bananas.
He said the Etunda Irrigation Scheme in Omusati, part of the Green Scheme, is one of the first agricultural projects that the Government introduced to produce sufficient food for the country. In its quest to develop the Etunda project into full production, the ministry recently awarded a tender to a company called Onyika to expand the project by uprooting trees and remove bushes.According to Mutorwa, the project’s development is divided into eight phases of which phases one to four are already developed and the only ones currently producing crops.- Nampa
