Julie Frederikse 28 June 2011 Durban — It might seem unusual for a waste utility to be concerned with the goal of ending world hunger, but that's part of the mission of the Water and Sanitation department in South Africa's second largest city of Durban. AllAfrica's Julie Frederikse spoke with Neil MacLeod, who heads this department for the municipality known by its Zulu name, eThekwini. "Intensive agriculture requires fertilizers, whose main component is phosphorus, yet where does our phosphorus go after it goes into crops and is digested?" said eThekwini Municipality Water and Sanitation director Neil MacLeod

The Ekpan Development Committee of Delta State has denied a report attributed to it, accusing Julius Berger Nigeria, JBN, of racial discrimination.

In a letter to the company by Mr. Franco Akemu and Mr. William Akpioma, the Chairman and Secretary, respectively, the committee said: “There has never been a time our community complained of apathy at Julius Berger.

“There has been a cordial relationship between JBN management and Ekpan community.”
It called on the general public to disregard the story which the community said could portray the people of the area as ingrates.

Similarly, Jackemi Security Limited denied the report that a German working with the company unleashed a dog on a Nigeria security guard working with the organisation.

In a statement by Jackemi Security Limited, it noted that there was no time that a staff was threatened with sack or intimidated.
