BENIN—FORMER Foreign Affairs Minister and National leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Chief Tom Ikimi, has attributed the defeat suffered by his party in Edo Central senatorial district in the just concluded general elections in the hands of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to what he described as the alleged “rigging machinery” of the PDP.
He said, however, that as a law abiding party, it had decided to contest the results of both the state and National Assembly elections at the tribunal. He expressed optimism that the party has enough evidence to reclaim the senatorial and House of Assembly seats at the tribunal.
It will be recalled that the ACN won only one seat in the state House of Assembly while the PDP took the Senate seat, two House of Representatives seats and five House of Assembly seats. The former chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, Chief Tony Anenih and Chief Ikimi are both from this district.
Chief Ikimi spoke, when he led other leaders of the ACN from Edo Central senatorial district to pay a courtesy visit to Okagiesan of Esan Land, His Royal Highness, Alhaji William Momodu 11.
Other leaders of the party at the visit, included the state chairman of the party, Mr Thomas Okosun, Frank Erewele, Prince Clifford Eweka, former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Bright Omokhodion, former chairman of the party, Prince Tony Omoaghe , former Commissioner for Information, Anslem Ojezua and Esan West Local Government Area chairman, Mrs Stella Okoro and others.
