Stoke City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen has said in no uncertain terms he needs first team football next season amid speculation linking him with a summer move to West Ham.

Sorensen has played an integral role in establishing Stoke in the Premier League since his arrival on a free transfer from Aston Villa in 2008, but the 35-year-old lost his status as first choice between the sticks last season to Bosnian international Asmir Begovic.

According to The Mirror, the veteran is reportedly considering his options as he heads into the final year of his contract with the club, and is believed to be on the radar of West Ham as new boss Sam Allardyce looks to build a side capable of winning promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt, with current Upton Park number one Rob Green expected to leave before the start of the season.

Sorensen made no attempt to rule out a move away from the Britannia Stadium, but admitted the need for first team football next term is foremost in his thinking as he weighs up his options this summer.

“I find it of the utmost importance to get more minutes of playing time next season,” the Dane told The Sun.
