PORT HARCOURT— SPEAKER of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr Otelema Amachree, has assured that the House will not be a rubber stamp but will work with the executive arm to take the state to a greater height.
Mr Amachree who spoke to newsmen during a dinner held in his honour by his friend, Mr Sodienye Peterside in Port Harcourt, said that members of the House voted him as Speaker because of the confidence and trust they had in hm.
He said his major task would be to take the House to the level the governor took to it when he was Speaker of the House.
“My legislative vision is to take the House to where it was when the governor, who was a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly took it to,” he added.
You will remember that the Assembly under him was the best in the country. And he was the Chairman of all the Speakers in the country. I want to get the House to that height again,” he said.
Continuing, he said the House will work with the state governor to achieve the visions of the founding fathers of the state. “W e are here to protect the interest of Rivers State and its people and we will work together with the executive. We will not be a rubber stamp, we will work the governor to ensure that the Rivers people benefit from our relationship.”
