British tabloid the News of the World had linked the 36-year-old defender with newly-promoted Premier League club QPR on Sunday, stating that Cannavaro would be available on a free transfer after being released by Al-Ahli on June 21. However, Al-Ahli chief executive Ahmed Khalifa Hamad told Sport360 that the report was not true and that the veteran defender remained contracted for next season.

Raul Meireles looks set for a move away from Anfield having become surplus to requirements, with Juventus and Inter potential destinations.

According to The Daily Mail, the Portuguese international is said to be frustrated by Liverpool’s lack of movement in offering him a new deal, having agreed the two parties would hold talks after the first year.

Instead, Dalglish is looking to bring in a few new faces, with Stewart Downing, Charlie Adam and Connor Wickham all said to be on the Anfield wish list. Also, with Steven Gerrard returning from injury and the emergence of Jay Spearing from the youth team, Meireles has now found himself on the fringes at Anfield.

Having taken time to settle on Merseyside, Meireles had a largely successful first season at Liverpool, making 41 appearances and scoring five goals, including a goal in the Merseyside derby and a brilliant 25 yard volley at Molineux.

These goals saw Meireles pick up the PFA Fans’ player of the Month award for February, and the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year award.

Liverpool are said to be looking to recoup upwards of the £11.5 million they paid Porto for Meireles last August.
