Mogadishu — The 51st anniversary of the independence of southern Somalia from the Britain colony on Sunday marked and celebrated in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
The ceremony which is said to be highly beautifully organized is attended Somalia’s top leaders, including the president, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, the speaker of Somali parliament, the newly named prime minister, ministers of former government and distinguished guests.
Singers of Waberi made huge exhibition of songs and play which were part of entertainment and festivals for 26 June 1960 at a time northern Somalia regions (Somaliland) gained its independence from United Kingdom (UK).
When the clock struck at 12am Mogadishu time, the leaders, and guests chanted Somalia’s national anthem as the blue flag with the five headed white star was raised.
After raising the flag, a number of artillery salvos were fired as part of the beautiful festival.
Somali new prime minister, Dr. Abdiweli Mohamed Ali addressed at the occasion and asked the parliament for his approval to form new government.
Also, Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adam, the speaker of the parliament spoke at ceremony congratulating the people of Somalia for celebrating their 51st anniversary of northern Somalia independence from Britain.
And the president who lastly delivered his speech told the people to keep on unity and be united.
