MTN Ghana says it has paid an amount in excess of GH¢900 million in taxes to the government of Ghana from the year 2008 to 2011.
Addressing editors in Accra today June 27, 2011, the newly appointed CEO of the company, Mr. Michael Ikpoki said the telecoms provider paid GH¢981,356,652.54 in taxes over the period, adding that as one of the big tax payers, “we are committed to helping grow this country.”
He indicated that MTN is poised to implement quality and sustainable projects that will enrich the lives of Ghanaians.
In its corporate social responsibilities, the company says it has invested a total of GH¢4, 345, 438.00 in both health and education.
Mrs. Mawuena Trebah, Corporate Services Executive of MTN Ghana, gave the breakdown as follows; in health the company has invested GH¢1,326,777 and GH¢3,018, 661 in education, she said.
Mr. Ikpoki hinted that MTN Ghana intends to roll out products and services targeted towards small and medium enterprises (SMEs). He said MTN would invest an amount of GH¢3.5 million to achieve this.
He also said by the first quarter of 2012, MTN’s fibre optic, the West Africa Cable System (WACS) will be operational and that would enable the expansion of data usage in Ghana for businesses.
