Nairobi — Kenyan pilot Aslam Khan put his new Porsche 911 through its first rigorous tests in preparation for the 2011 Kenya Airways East African Safari Classic Rally during last weekend’s KCB Safari Rally in Kajiado.
Aslam was leading the Supplementary Class of the Safari Rally when he lost control of the car and gently rolled it over.Painfully, the car then had a small fire but the crew managed to extinguish it before too much damage was done.
“The car is amazing and has so much more power and handling than the Ford Escort” said Aslam.
The car, prepared by Tuthill Porsche from the United Kingdom, has all the latest specification of suspensions which will be used in the 2011 event in November by the whole team.
Entries for the Kenya Airways Safari Classic continue to pour in with new entries from Nick Mason in a Datsun 260Z and newcomer Kurt Engelhorn from Germany in a Ford Escort Mark 1.
From Tanzania, Safari veteran Jayant Shah navigated by former winning co-driver Lofty Drews have also entered their Datsun 260Z.
