Kenyan pilot, Aslam Khan put his new Porsche 911 through its first test in preparation for the 2011 Kenya Airways East African Safari Classic Rally last weekend during the KCB Safari Rally Kenya held in Kajiado.”The car is amazing and has so much more power and handling than the Ford Escort” said Aslam.
The car prepared by Tuthill Porsche from the UK has all the latest specification of suspensions which will be used in the 2011 event in November by the whole team. Aslam was leading the supplementary class of the Safari Rally when he lost control of the car and gently rolled it over. Painfully, the car had a small fire but the crew managed to extinguish it before too much damage was done.
Meanwhile, entries for the Safari Classic continue to pour in with new entries from Nick Mason in a Datsun 260Z and also a newcomer Kurt Engelhorn from Germany in a Ford Escort Mark 1. From Tanzania, Safari veteran Jayant Shah, navigated by former winning co-driver Lofty Drews have also entered their Datsun 260Z. The total for the entry list now stands at 46 cars and the organisers are expecting at least seven more entries to come by before October 15 deadline.
