DCEs call for violent free congress

  The Action Congress of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State Chapter has congratulated Governor Godswill Akpabio on his resounding victory at the just concluded governorship elections and urged other political parties to deepen democracy by accepting the outcome of the elections.

THE METROPOLITAN, MUNICIPAL and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) from the northern sector of the country, after deliberations in their three-day  conference held in Kumasi last week,  have called on party delegates  to ensure a violence free congress at Sunyani from July 8 to 10.

The MMDCEs in a communiqué issued after the conference stated that the NDC as a party needs to be more formidable than ever before and, as such anything negative that might occur at Sunyani, would go a long way to haunt the fortunes of the party.

The communiqué stated, ‘ we wish to appeal to the rank and file of our party to endeavour to have incident free primaries to maintain the unity of our great party after the July congress to pave the way for resounding victory in the 2012 general elections’.

The MMDCE also reaffirmed their commitment and trust in President Mills’ administration, noting that the advancement of resources to enhance the performance of their job as chief executives and the provision of logistics aimed at enhancing the mobility of both assembly staff and assembly members at the local level were the testimonies of the President’s agenda of making Ghana a better place on the continent.

During the opening of the congress, it was announced that the government would soon distribute new vehicles, motor-bikes and bicycles to the assemblies in the country to enable the movement of staff and assembly members.

They also commended the President for his appreciation of their performance, assuring him that they would work extra harder to achieve the goals set by the NDC’s Better Ghana agenda for the country.

The MMDCEs were happy that the introduction of the new assembly concept christened Local Economic Development (LED) at the localities, which aimed at enhancing the socio-economic development at the various assemblies and assured the government that they would fully support

the concept to ensure its sustainability.
On job creation, the MMDCEs said they would channel some resources at the respective assemblies to ensure that jobs were created for the people, particularly the youth. They also declared their commitment to double their efforts in the fight against the global climate change.

On afforestation programme put in place by the government to improve the environment, the MMDCEs appealed to the Ministries of Agriculture, Lands and Natural Resources to do all it takes to sustain the initiative, suggesting that the government should revive the mobi-squad concept to keep track on the maintenance and greening of the environment.
