Dar Es Salaam Golfers Set for Malawi Event

    THE Tanzania High Commissioner to Malawi, Wilbroad Kayombo has requested the Tanzanian golfers to participate in the International Bingu Silvergrey Foundation charity golf tournament scheduled to tee off in Lilongwe, Malawi, on August 27.

    Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) Administrator Sophie Nyanjera told the ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam on Monday that the Bingu Silvergrey Foundation invited Tanzanian golfers to compete in the charity event via the Tanzania High Commission in Lilongwe.

    Nyanjera said TGU has already forwarded the invitation to all golfing members and he called upon those wishing to take part to confirm through the country’s golf governing body so that they can forward the names to event organizers.

    The Bingu Silvergrey Foundation is an institution established by His Excellency Ngwazi Prof Bingu wa Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi to look after the elderly people in Malawi.

    President Mutharika is the chairman of the foundation.

    According to the invitation letter sent to TGU, the foundation has approached African Ambassadors and High Commissioners that are accredited to the Republic of Malawi for the holding of the golf event for Charity.

    The letter revealed that the proceeds of the charity golf tournament would assist the Bingu Silvergrey Foundation in its social programmes for the elderly.

    “It will be the international event with a minimum of two self – sponsored players or more from each respective country of the African Group of Ambassadors and High Commissioners accredited to the Republic of Malawi,” reads the letter.

    Nyanjera said the participation fee for those wishing to participate is US 350 Dollars per player, exclusive of travel expenses, accommodation and meals.
