South African international Bongani Khumalo is determined to show Tottenham Hotspur what he can do after a tough start to his career at White Hart Lane.

The defender arrived in England from Supersport United in January but was unable to break into the Spurs first-team and soon found himself out on loan to Preston.

The 24-year-old only made six appearances for North End before a fractured metatarsal ended his season and saw him return to London, but Khumalo has insisted he is working hard to be ready for pre-season training.

“Everything’s on track,” he told the club’s official website. “I’ve been running again and that felt good. I’ve missed that feeling.

“I’m getting stronger and stronger and building up my fitness again.”

Despite a tough start to life in England, Khumalo claimed he was delighted to get his first taste of football at Deepdale and admitted the experience had helped him settle into life in his new country.

“It was a great experience to play my first matches in England,” he added.

“I worked hard at Spurs with all the coaches, got used to the environment, the players and conditions, and it was great to get a test of all I’d learned at Preston.

“I did all I could, but my loan spell was cut short through injury.”
