Premier League giants Arsenal are closely monitoring the situation of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Arturo Vidal.
According to reports in the German daily, Bild, Arsene Wenger’s outfit are searching for a new midfielder because of the ongoing uncertainty regarding the futures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, who are being linked with moves to Barcelona and Manchester United respectively, and have identified Vidal as an alternative should either player move on.
Wenger has reportedly contacted a number of Bundesliga coaches to gather information on the Chile international, and he is ready to launch a bid for the player.
The 24-year-old has a contract with Leverkusen until 2012, and an offer in the region of €15 million (£13.3m) is likely to be required to lure him away from the Champions League qualifiers.
Vidal has previously been linked with Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Napoli, but Leverkusen are reluctant to sell their star midfielder to another Bundesliga side, while sporting director Rudi Voller claimed that AC Milan’s €10m (£8.8m) offer was insufficient.
