Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has revealed that he needs to sell players before he can buy more, according to The Daily Mirror.

Redknapp has said he believes Spurs require two or three more top class players to challenge for the Champions’ League places, but has apparently been told by chairman Daniel Levy that funds must be raised before he can enter transfer negotiations.

After rejecting a ÂŁ22 million bid from Chelsea for Luka Modric, Levy was adamant that the Croatian would not be sold at any price. Meanwhile midfielder Aaron Lennon is reportedly a transfer target for Liverpool.

And Redknapp knows he must raise funds by selling some players before he can buy more.  He said: “There is nothing happening in the transfer market.

“I need to sell four or five players to bring in funds.

“The chairman has made it clear we need to move a few players before we can start doing any business.

“I keep seeing us linked with this player and that, but unless we reduce our squad numbers we will stay quiet in the market.”
