Rwanda completed their programme at the 2011 FIFA Under-17 World Cup with a 0-0 draw against Canada in Group C on Saturday.
The result means the debutants at least leave the competition with a point, after earlier losses to England (0-2) and Uruguay (0-1) in which they certainly did not disgrace themselves.
But they will rue the fact that a win in this match would have sent them through to the second stage as one of the best third-place finishers in the group stages.
Andrew Buteera shot just over for the Rwandans early on, while Mwesigye Tibingana fired in a shot from distance that was just tipped over the bar.
They then had a great chance to snatch the lead against the run of play when Bonfils Kabanda crossed for Buteera, who somehow missed an open goal.
Kabanda then missed a great opportunity himself when he was left alone at the back post, but his shot was wild.
But it was not to be and they had to settle for the draw that sees them head home after the first stage.
Burkina Faso must try and get a big win against Ecuador on Sunday to boost their chances of advancing after two defeats, while Cote d’Ivoire need a point against the might of Brazil, but could also get away with a narrow defeat to win a place in the second round.
