Zvimba North Constituency secondary and primary schools are set to clash in three sport disciplines in the Dr IMC Chombo tournament, which gets underway on Saturday at various venues in the constituency.

The tournament will feature 10 secondary and 18 primary schools from the constituency with participants taking part in soccer, netball and volleyball at zonal stages.

The matches will be played at three venues – Muriel Mine, Mutorashanga and Raffingora.

The semi-finals and the finals are slated for July 2 at Mutorashanga Stadium and Mutorashanga Country Club.

The tournament is the brainchild of Zvimba North Constituency Member of Parliament Ignatius Chombo and seeks to give a platform to students from primary and secondary schools in the constituency to showcase their talent.

The tournament also provides an opportunity to discuss politics with youths at a more personal level highlighting such issues as patriotism and nationalism.

In the secondary schools competition, 10 schools will be divided into two zones – Mutorashanga and Raffingora.

Mutorashanga Zone will be made up of Mutora-shanga High, Chrome Mine Secondary, Muriel Mine Secondary and Dalston Secondary while Raffingora zone consists of Raffingora High, Katawa, ADA Assis, Buwi, Great Grain and Pamwechete.

The top two teams in the two zones will progress to the semi-finals to be held on July 2 at Mutorashanga Country Club.

The 18 Primary Schools will be grouped into three zones with zone A made up of Muriel, Lone Cow, Templeton and Baron Gomo.

Chrome Mine, Chrome Headquarters, Great Dyke, Vanad, Maplanka and Windsor will battle it out in Zone B while Raffingora, Katawa, Dalston, Pamwechete, ADA Assis, Buwi and Great grain will fight for honours in Zone C.

Winners in the three Zones will automatically secure semi-finals spot. Runners up in Zone B and C will clash for clash for the fourth semi-finalist spot.

The play offs will be played on July 2 prior to the semi-finals and the finals.

Before the finals teachers and the police will play against each other as a curtain raiser.

The organisers are also hoping to rope in Warriors’ stars, who are still in the country on their off-season break, to grace the occasion.

“It’s important that the role models grace the occasion because they will inspire the kids with a living example of what they can become if they pursue their dreams,’ said the organisers.
