Following news that the South African national team will engage the Super Eagles of Nigeria in an international friendly on August 10, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has distanced itself from the proposed date. August 9, a day before has already been agreed with the Ghanaian FA for another friendly with the Black Stars of Ghana. To this end, the NFF have come out to debunk claims that they have agreed to play Bafana on August 10.
SAFA boss, Kirten Nematandani Monday announced that Bafana will tackle the Super Eagles on August 10. But today organisers for the proposed friendly between West African rivals Nigeria and Ghana billed for August 9 will unveil plans for the London clash.
According to Chairman of the technical committee of the NFF, Chris Green nothing concrete has been agreed with South Africa. “The Ghana match stays,” Green said.
According to MTNFootball.com, the London match against Ghana is being organised by the same company who facilitated the high-profile friendly against Argentina on June 1 in Abuja.
It is the same group that has proposed a money-spinning rematch against the South Americans in Bangladesh in September. It also arranged the participation of the country’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, to an invitational tournament in Suwon, South Korea, that also attracted Uruguay and New Zealand.
