Lagos — Former Sharks FC, Saarbrucken, Waldhof Mannheim and Fortuna Dusseldorf defender, Echendu Adiele is dead.
Adiele, who is based in Germany returned to Nigeria on holidays four days ago and died in his sleep at about 2 am on Saturday, June 18 2011 after what a close member of his family who disclosed during a news programme monitored in Lagos.
The member of the family said the former Flying Eagles defender died of spiritual attack.
His wife is said to be in coma at an undisclosed hospital while a friend of his at the house died later in the hospital. No other detail was given by the family about his death.
Born in 1978, Adiele signed for Port Harcourt, Nigeria based Sharks FC in 1992 and then moved to Julius Berger in 1995. He joined Fortuna Dusseldorf in 1997 and then Borussia Neunkirchen in 1998.
He moved to FC Saarbrucken in 1999 and then SV Darmstadt in 2006. One year later he joined Waldof Mannheim and returned to Darmstadt in 2009.
He is the son of Babalola Adiele who played for the Port Harcourt XI (Red Devils) in the 1960s and then became a pioneer coach of Sharks in the early 1970s.
