Kenya Universities athletic championships will take place at Chepkoilel University this weekend. The competition will be used to select the team that will represent the institutions during the national athletics championships cum trials scheduled for July 14-16 at Nyayo Stadium.
According to the organisers, all the public universities will field athletes for a slot at the national trials.”The necessary arrangements have been finalised and we expect the athletes to report early due to the changing weather patterns,” said AK Universities branch treasure Fatwel Kimaiyo.
He said they intend to start off the event early to enable the athletes post the qualifying mark.
“We will only select those who will meet the qualification mark since we intend to take a strong team to the nationals,” Universities branch chairperson Tecla Sang said. Qualifying times in different disciplines proved elusive during the Athletics Kenya weekend meetings and it remains to be seen whether the university students will hack it.
