Ghana U23 captain Samuel Inkoom has called on his team-mates to show their mettle in the first leg of their final All African Games final qualifier against Nigeria on Saturday.
The Black Meteors are in Benin City for the first leg game and are seeking to appease their fans after being kicked out of the Olympic Games qualifiers.
With a star-studded team that in camp for the game, Inkoom is confident they can beat their arch rival given the perfect preparation under coach Akwasi Appiah.
“The preparation for this game has been excellent,” Inkoom told GHANAsoccernet.com
“The coaching team has worked extremely hard and it is now down to us the individual players to take to the field and prove what we are capable of.
“We fully understand the challenge that lies in front of us over this game after failing to qualify for the Olympic Games in London.
“We are all confident that we have the character, fight, determination and desire to meet the Nigeria challenge head-on and get the job done by winning away.”
The race to qualify for the 2011 All Africa Games in Maputo nears its conclusion this weekend with the first legs of five decisive ties will be played across the continent.
Like the Olympics, All Africa Games qualifiers are restricted to under-23 footballers.
Inkoom, The Dnipro right-back was chosen ahead of 2009 Fifa Under-20 World Cup winning mates Emmanuel Agyeman-Badu and goalkeeper Daniel Agyei.
Agyeman-Badu, who plays for Italian side Udinese, was tipped to lead the team in the absence of Andre Ayew.
