Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic is hoping to bring trophies back to Stamford Bridge after a season without silverware.
The Serbian international, who was deployed regularly at both full-back and centre-back last campaign, will be playing under new manager Andre Villas-Boas at Stamford Bridge in the 2011-12 season
Ivanovic, 27, found it hard to evaluate his own season on individual merit when the campaign as-a-whole for the three-time Premier League champions was a poor one.
“Personally I don’t like to look on my own season,” he said to the Chelsea’s official website.
“Every time when you don’t win a trophy it is hard and in many ways you want to forget the whole year.
“It was a hard season after the World Cup and playing in two positions, but sometimes I like to play different positions.
“I don’t like to speak about me personally and I think every player’s success can be judged on what the team does.”
Ivanovic arrived at the Blues from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2008 and has been capped for Serbia’s national side 40 times since his debut in 2003.
The defender believes the squad need to work together more as a team this season under Villas-Boas and thinks every player’s personal success should be formed around on how the club performs.
“You can have a striker who scores 50 goals in one season but if you win nothing it means nothing,” Ivanovic added.
“At the same time I am very happy because we were the best defensive team in the league, I cannot say just the defenders because 11 players defend, but this is a good thing for next season for our confidence.
“But we do have to improve other parts of our play – we have to play more for the team, like a team, to give opportunities to our team-mates.
“We know where we made mistakes and I think we will be better and improve in the new season.”
