By Ikechukwu Nnochiri ABUJA—EMBATTLED former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, yesterday, challenged the power of an Abuja High Court sitting at Apo, to try him for alleged fraud. Bankole who went before the high court with an application seeking to quash the entire criminal charge against him, maintained that no court has the power to try him over any action he performed while exercising his powers as Speaker of the House of Representatives. In an application he filed through his lead counsel, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, the former Speaker relied on provisions of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act and the National Assembly Service Commission Act, to insist that he was immuned from prosecution, even as he contended that there was no evidence to sustain any of the 17-count charge against him.

Lassana Diarra‘s agent has said that the player is happy at Real Madrid following recent speculation linking him to a move back to the Premier League.

The midfielder failed to hold down a regular first-team place at the Bernabeu due to competition from both Sami Khedira and Xabi Alonso.

But the Frenchman’s agent, John Williams, insists his client wishes to stay with Jose Mourinho’s side next term.

“Contrary to everything that has been said and written, Lassana has not decided to quit Real and no ultimatum for his departure has been given by the Madrid directors,” Williams told Le 10 Sport.

“He still has two more years on his contract and he feels fine at Madrid.

“Mourinho likes him a lot and has told him he counts on him for the following season.”

The 26-year-old has been reportedly the target of Premier League clubs including Manchester United and Tottenham, as well as Italian giants Juventus in recent weeks, but his agent is adamant the midfielder will only leave for another high-profile club.

Williams continued: “I have not found any club for Lass.

“Anyway, he is not out on the street.

“We are in a waiting position with regards to the opportunities that will be presented to us.

“But if he has to leave, he will not leave for any club. It will either be for the cream of Europe or he will not leave.

“It will depend specially on the project and the sporting guarantees that will be presented.”
