Dar es Salaam — Tanzania looks set to host more than five countries for the Zone V Judo championship scheduled to take place early next month at Landmark Hotel.”Everything is in place and we are ready to take them on. Five countries have so far confirmed their participation.
“It has been a long time since we staged a championship of such magnitude, and I hope it will be a major success,” said Kashinde Shabani, the secretary general of Judo Association of Tanzania (Jata).
Shabani named the countries setting sights on the championship and the jackpot that goes with it as: host Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Zanzibar and Eritrea. The soft-spoken official said they were looking forward to Rwanda, Burundi and Ethiopia to register for the regional event in a few days.
“Burundi and Rwanda have not been participating regularly in the championships, but we expect them to take part this time around,” he said. The official said the forthcoming event would serve to hone the local judokas’ skills ahead of the All Africa Games slated for Maputo in September.
