Yenagoa— Bayelsa State Government has reiterated its commitment to the completion of the South South zonal station of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, in the state.

The state governor, Sen. Timipre Sylva, gave the assurance when he received the Board and management of the corporation led by its chairman, Mr Boyelayefa Debekeme, in Yenagoa.

The FRCN team had inspected the site for the project in Gbarantoru, donated by the state government.
The government had in 2009, donated different parcels of land for both the FM station in Yenagoa and the South South zonal headquarters approved for the state but was yet to pay compensation for the land given out for the construction of the FM station near Okaka.

Represented by his deputy, Werinipre Seibarugu, the governor said the state government was prepared to hand over all the title documents for the lands donated to the FRCN for the projects, adding that the timely completion would be of great benefit to the people of the state.

A former Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, who commended FRCN Board chairman for attracting federal presence to the state, said, “We believe in your ability as a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly. Completing the project here will benefit the people and government of Bayelsa. There will be new employment for our people and we will use the stations to disseminate information and policies of the government to the people.”

Debekeme said that President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Assembly had demonstrated their resolve for the take-off of the project by making budgetary provision for the zonal station.
