Kampala — If there is a team that has suffered in Uganda’s firing line, it is Kenya. However, the law of averages always calls us back to our senses.
It’s often used and Uganda Cranes coach Bobby Williamson understands it well as the Uganda U-23 side face Kenya this Sunday in the first leg of the All Africa Games qualifiers. He understands Uganda cannot beat the eastern neighbours forever. The winner will get a ticket to the event in Maputo, Mozambique this September as Zone V representatives.
“It will be about what we do on Sunday not what we achieved against them in the past and psychologically they may be better,” said Bobby, the Kobs head coach. “But my team will perform to deny them.” The national senior team, Uganda Cranes, edged Kenya to a slot at the Africa Nations Championship (Chan) held in Sudan early this year.
That came on the back of a couple of dominant performances to win the Cecafa title, twice beating the Harambee Stars enroute. Uganda are also top of Group J in the Africa Nations Cup qualifiers with 10 points, six better than third- placed Kenya.
Kobs are currently undergoing residential training in Kavumba, Wakiso District with only local-based players. “I expect Saddam (Juma) and (Moses) Oloya from Vietnam plus (Tanzania-based Emma) Okwi to join the team tomorrow (today),” Bobby added.
