The legal department plays an essential role in every administration. In the Ministry of Public Works, the department is faced with problems in legal commitments of the ministry, poorly written complaints service orders issued in contradiction with terms of contract, award of contracts without mastery of the legal framework, poor understanding of the procedures for the termination of contract, among others.
It is in this light that a two-day seminar on the promotion of legal practices in the Ministry of Public Works opened in Yaounde yesterday June 20. Organised by the Ministry of Public Works, the workshop brings together participants from the across the country.
Speaking during the opening, the Minister of Public Works, Bernard Messengue Avom warned that individuals involved in malpractices will be sanctioned. He called on the participants to master and take in into account the legal constraints linked to their different tasks and to promote frank collaboration between their departments.
For three days, participants will study topics such as “Legal changes in the Ministry of Public Works: A look at the new organisational chart”, “The responsibility of public agents in the management of contracts in public contracts”, “The techniques of writing of contracts, among others.
The workshop aims at explaining the role of judicial practices in the Ministry of Public Works. The seminar is in line with the need of the Ministry of Public Works to enter resolutely and definitely into the era of legal governance.
