Wigan Atheltic chairman Dave Whelan has revealed that star winger Charles N’Zogbia is almost certainly going to leave the club this summer, but admits he will wait for the “right price” for the player.

Liverpool, Newcastle United and Sunderland have all been linked with the Frenchman, who has 12 months remaining on his existing deal.

N’Zogbia was close to switching to Birmingham last summer in a £9 million deal, however, the move collapsed after he failed to agree personal terms.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post, Whelan revealed: “I do think he wil go this summer, but we want the right price before we allow that to happen.

“We have a fee in mind and we are fighting to get that fee.

“There has been an awful lot of interest in Charles. We’ve had three or four clubs biting, wanting to be kept in the know.”

However, despite the interest in the former Newcastle man, no offers have been made for the 25-year-old.

“There’s been no official bids yet, and I think it’ll be another week to 10 days before things get as serious as that,” Whelan continued.

“But he’s worth a hell of a lot more than the fee we’re asking.

“Whichever club gets Charles will be getting a great player for far less than what he is actually worth.”

Commenting on the possibility of clubs overlooking N’Zogbia due to his failed move to Birmingham, Whelan stated: “That wasn’t his fault at all.

“It was the agents who were to blame for what happened, not Charles.”
