BENIN – NATIONAL Union of Electricity Employees of Nigeria, NUEE, Edo/Delta States zone,  yesterday, warned that its members nation- wide would resist the appointment of Prof. Bath Nnaji to head the power sector.

Addressing newsmen in Benin, the Zonal Organizing Secretary 1, Edo/Delta States, NUEE, Mr Joseph Ndem said, “We don’t want to believe that President Goodluck Jonathan is packaging Prof. Nnaji for the Power Ministry.

It will be recalled that we told Mr. President that appointing him as Chairman, Power Committee of the Presidential Advisory Council was as good as sending a bad messenger to convey a good message.

“We were vindicated when it turned out that Nnaji’s  main interest was not how to profer solutions to the power situation and ways of improving the sector, rather, he was desperate on how to transfer ownership structure of state owned utilities to the private sector ably represented by him.

“Our major concern  is that his name has appeared on the list of ministerial nominees. If the President makes the mistake of appointing him to run the Ministry of Power, that will mean appointing darkness to oversea light in the country.”

“He will work alone, for we shall continue to resist Nnaji, whose appointment will spell doom for the country’s social and industrial development.”
